The Chosen one
What is your Just Cause? What is the ultimate goal of your life? What are you seeking?
When we think of the "Chosen one," we may imagine gifted individuals with extraordinary powers, like the superheroes in the Marvel or DC Universe. However, in this post, I'm going to talk about an ordinary guy - myself - and how I discovered my own just cause.
The odd question
About three years ago, during the Covid pandemic, I found myself lying in bed at midnight, lost in random thoughts. It's a habit of mine to enjoy self-reflection and understanding the nature of things. I used to ask a lot of questions when I was a kid, to the point where my mom and dad couldn't stay calm and patient to put up with my endless inquiries. :))
That night, a question suddenly popped up in my mind: What is the ultimate goal of my life? What am I seeking? I know it may sound nuts, since I was only a 23-year-old boy. I should have been focusing on making money, finding a girl to marry, and all the things that older people say. But instead, I was asking a philosophical question that not many people give a shit.
My reflection
Back in 1997, on January 17th, just four days after my grandpa passed away, my mom gave birth to me. My 94-year-old grandma can hardly remember anything now, but she never forgets that emotional day. Every time I visit her, she tells me, "Ông mất được 4 ngày thì đẻ cháu!" which means "Your grandpa died four days before you were born!". Yeah, I was told that on that day, with my presence, all of my relatives were overjoyed. Especially my dad, whose father had passed away, was brought to tears of joy. It seemed like the 0-year-old me helped everyone who knew me ease the pain of loss and temporarily forget the heart-breaking sorrow and sadness caused by my grandpa's death.
So I guess that's my mission when coming to this world: to heal others' pain, bring laughter, and spread positive vibes to those around me. Honestly, I was enlightened and surprised by my own thoughts. They were so simple yet so meaningful. It's worth spending the rest of my life pursuing this cause.
When speaking to younger individuals, including my previous team members at Base, I discovered that many of them are struggling. They appear lost, emotionally unstable, lacking confidence, and sometimes become discouraged and lose faith in themselves. Even one team member expressed doubt towards me by asking if I had ever experienced a down-time, since I was always smiling.
I responded by telling her, "Trust me, I can relate to what you're going through because I've experienced it myself. I know firsthand the negative thoughts and emotions that come with it, and I truly empathize with you. I feel your pain as if it were my own, and it tears me apart to see you struggling."
"With great power comes great responsibility." - My favorite quote, which happens to be Uncle Ben's last words to Spider-Man.
As the "Chosen One," I feel a duty to do my best to help others overcome their challenges and regain the best possible life. The first step is always the hardest, which is to find a way out: Define the Just Cause, aka The life missions and goals. These are like the light at the end of the tunnel. Once found, they can lead to the much better life ones deserve.
Conclusion
Life is a battle that we have no choice but to fight. Therefore, we must fight for our just cause, for what we believe in, appreciate, and love. Let's live a life that we will never regret.
